Ok, so running attracts much attention. Topics surrounding running technique, the ideal running surface, footwear design and the never ending question of barefoot running are often hotly and passionately debated amongst professionals, academics and runners alike.
As a runner (ahem..) I like to stay across the running literature for my own interests as well as for that of my patients. I have a treadmill in house and find this useful to assess running gait.
Running injuries are numerous and the more common ones arise from some kind of overuse. Weak and unstable feet compromise the anchor into which the powerful global muscles of the legs attach. This creates very inefficient movement and the body fatigues quickly.
Anterior knee pain, shin splints, and Achilles tenosynovitis are the common running injuries but there are many more.
